Do You Have A Dream?

“Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal.” -Richard Vaull Starr

Dear Friends,

The mind is a magical, mystical source of innovation, inspiration, questions, answers, ideas, images and visions. Our minds are uniquely designed to grow and expand each and every day.

Stop for just one second. Take a snapshot of your mind right now. What are you thinking? Is your consciousness filled with visions and dreams that take you to new experiences of joy and freedom?

Or are you worrying, thinking about how you can’t have what you want or scared that something you don’t want may happen? Are you constantly running a “to do” list in the back of your mind and stressing because you can’t imagine how you will get it all done?

Do you ever take time just to daydream?

Our minds are out greatest gifts. Truly, our minds are what set up apart from the rest of the magnificent creations on this planet.

With our minds we create, we envision and we imagine greatness. What a waste of our minds when we limit ourselves to small thoughts and daily worries and fears. When we stop dreaming we lose touch with our untapped potential to experience freedom, joy and growth.

When we stop dreaming, we waste our minds.

Think about this. Everything that is in front of you right now, including your computer was an idea in somebody’s mind first. All things start in our imaginations, our dreams, before they come into form.

How much of your life right now is a reflection of the accumulation of your thoughts and dreams?

Are you living the life you dream of?

Are you dreaming the dreams you want to dream?

In my coaching practice, I find that I sometimes have to coach people on how to dream. Dreaming, for some of us, is a skill that we forget when we become adults.

What were some of your big dreams as a kid? Did you share your dreams with others? What messages did you get about your dreams? Were you encouraged to “go for it” or were you told to be more “realistic”?

Do you remember how to dream?

Last week I wrote about how knowing what you DON’T want is a great way to help you clarify what you DO want. Over the next few weeks I want help you clarify your desires even more by helping you remember how to dream.

Try this exercise. You will need 15 minutes of uninterrupted time, a few pieces of paper and a nice pen that feels good to write with.

Put on some FUN music, something that makes your heart sing…and get ready to use your imagination…

When you feel ready, ask yourself this question:

If you could be, do or have anything…ANYTHING IN THE WORLD…NO HOLDS BARRED…NO LIMITS…DON’T WORRY ABOUT MONEY, YOUR CAREER, YOUR LIFESTYLE, YOUR COMMITMENTS…THIS IS YOUR IMAGINATION UNLEASHED…what would it be?

Now let yourself go. Write it all down. It’s okay if you just want to make lists. It’s okay if you want to just write words. It’s okay if you want to draw pictures or long descriptive essays. There is no right or wrong way to do this.

Just do it.

Write it all out like a six-year-old kid writing his Christmas wish list.

Don’t write a single thing that you think you “should” write. Only write about your wildest, craziest, most passionate desires…all the things you dreamed of doing but never allowed yourself to do…

When you are done, get up, crank up the music and do a dance of celebration!

You have just taken the first step in creating the life you dream of.

In order to create the life you dream of, you have to first have a dream!

Life happens. It goes on all around us and impacts us deeply. Having a dream gives you a map, a tool, to help you deliberately sculpt and create the life experiences you desire. Remember, everything starts in mind. Having a good dream is a great place to start creating a deliberate life.

Dream big! Dream impossible dreams!

That’s all you have to do right now. Don’t worry about how they are going to happen. Don’t even worry about whether your dreams are possible or not. Just dream.

“Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher that you think.”
- Benjamin Disraeli

“Nothing happens unless first a dream.”
– Carl Sandburg

“Stop the habit of wishful thinking and start the habit of thoughtful wishes.”
–Mary Martin

“The desire not to be anything is the desire not to be.” Ayn Rand

Have fun!

Next week: Putting your dream life on steroids!

Love,
Karen

p.s. If want to share your dreams, I would love to see them. For inspiration, I have included my daughter, Kassidy’s, dreams. Just a little reminder of how expansive our minds really can be…!!
