THE POWER OF COLOUR AND SOUND
What is Color? Color is a property of Light. All light begins as white light. Sunlight is the light of our physical world and has seven major colors visible to the naked eye that are created when light passes through a prism. The Seven rays of the spectrum are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.
One of the most beautiful displays of color is in the rainbow. The Polar lights have an excellent display of light, the Aurora Borealis in the Northern Hemisphere and the Aurora Austral is in the Southern Hemisphere.
Every color has its own special properties and characteristics, each capable of affecting the human body. Colors can stimulate, balance, revitalize, harmonize and calm our body. Each color or combination of colors has wonderful affects when used in healing with the seven energy centers (chakras).
The following are some of the colors and their meanings:
Red – stimulating, grounding, courage and energy
Orange- Optimism, creativity, emotions and insight
Yellow- Happiness, knowledge, individual power
Green – Balance, growth, calming
Blue – Nurturing, creative expression, peace of mind
Violet- Spirituality, transformation and purification
Pink – Unconditional Love, warmth and caring
Magenta- Deep Compassion
White – Purity and Illumination
Gold – Wisdom and Exaltation
Everything that exists is vibrating or is in a state of vibration. From the electrons spinning around the nucleolus of an atom to the planets spinning around the sun. If it is in vibration it is putting out a sound. Sound travels as a wave form and measured in cycles per second. This is called a frequency. Every part of our body is in a state of vibration, every organ, tissue and system. The human energy system is much like an orchestra. When all the instruments are playing in tune the body plays its own harmonic symphony. But when one instrument is out of rhythm it affects the whole body. The focus of a color and sound healing is to restore to harmony that portion of the body that is vibrating out of tune.
The seven energy centers (chakras) respond to the seven rays of color and also the seven notes of the musical scale. Sound by itself if a powerful healing force but Sound and Color are a more powerful combination.
The healing values of music have been recognized from the earliest times. There are many types of music that can be applied to healing. Music that is rhythmic affects the physical body. Music that is melodic deals mostly with the emotions, and music that is harmonic relates to our spiritual self. Strong rhythms, loud sounds can stir the physical senses. Martial and patriotic music can energize a lethargic person stimulating circulation or giving vitality. On an emotional level, music with a clear melody reaches our feeling nature. It helps us to relive the tension and pressure of life and to become introspective about our feelings and emotions.
