THE EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUES REVISITED Tapping Into Your Personal Power Hi! For the last few months I have been talking about the importance of transformation and living an authentic life.
In my coaching practice, I have found that limiting beliefs are the most significant blocks to creating an authentic life. A few weeks ago I introduced you to the Measures of P.E.A.C.E. tool, a system to help you evaluate what you may want to change to make your life more fulfilling. This is a great tool to help you see where you want to go in your life.
As many of you may have experienced, changing your life circumstances can sometimes be challenging. We all have dreams that we have stored in our hearts about the ideal life that we would love to experience. But, sometimes our dreams get lost among the practical realities of everyday life. I firmly believe that it is possible to recapture and live out those dreams. But it can take a little work.
The biggest challenge to making our dreams come true is fixing our mindset about our reality. All dreams start in the mind before they can take place in our outer reality. My greatest challenge in transforming my own life situation has been giving myself permission to visualize my perfect life. For years I couldn't allow myself to imagine what I truly wanted in my life without instantly being hit with limiting thoughts and, for me, the real BIGGIE...guilt.
Some of my thoughts included the following:
You have to work hard to make money. You can't make money doing what you love. Following your dreams can only happen at the expense of others. Life is hard and suffering is our birthright. I'm not good enough to make a lot of money. You don't deserve to be happy when everyone around you is miserable. If you make money doing something that is easy then you must be cheating people. You are not good enough to be successful at your work. Only a few lucky people can be successful. And you aren't going to be one of them. Etc. etc. etc.
I would be lying if I said to you that I have completely mastered my mindset. Keeping my mind clear of limiting beliefs is a daily practice for me. We are immersed in mass consciousness every day and it can be a challenge to believe in a personal reality that doesn't seem to be supported by the world around us. For example, if you believe that abundance is your birthright and then you read in the paper that we are in a recession, you may have a hard time maintaining your abundance consciousness.
Because it is so difficult for me to not be influenced by mass consciousness, I have chosen to not read the paper or watch television for several years now, much to the amusement of some of my oldest friends. I do feel at times that I am behind on what is new in the world but it seems to be easier for me to stay focused on creating a reality that is relatively free from limiting thoughts. Of course, I know many others who watch TV and read "Time" magazine who do just fine keeping their mindset in order. I encourage you to make choices that best support your own personal development.
In my last article I introduced the Measures of P.E.A.C.E. tool as a beautiful way to help you gain awareness about what it is that you may want to change in your life. (If you haven't done it yet, click here to download a copy.)
The Measures of P.E.A.C.E. tool can be used in several ways. The first step in using this tool is to honestly score your statues in each of the five areas and add up the score. From this step you gain a general overview of where your life is compared to where you want it to be.
Your second step in using this tool helps you gain awareness of what limiting beliefs that you may have that are keeping you from creating an authentic life. This important second step in gaining awareness of limiting blocks and beliefs is very simple to do. After you fill out the Measures of P.E.A.C.E. tool sit back and imagine what it would be like if you got a perfect "20" on any given section. Really feel and see this state of perfect manifestation. Pay close attention to how this visualization may be affecting you. Does it bring you peace? Or, do you feel anxious? Do you hear any voices that are telling why you can't have what you desire? Do you have any beliefs that may be limiting you in manifesting this reality?
For example, let's say you got a "0" for "get regular exercise, sleep and relaxation" in the "Health" section of the tool. When you start visualizing getting regular sleep, exercise or relaxation, what might be some of the limits that you feel regarding this area of your life? Some of the most common limits my clients share with me are, "I don't have enough time," "I have too much to do" and "I'm too tired at the end of the day". These are all limiting beliefs that can keep you from manifesting your full physical health.
It is very possible to easily remove limiting beliefs and thoughts out of your reality using the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). EFT is a meridian-based energy therapy that involves simply tapping on accupressure points on the body to help alleviate stress, trauma, physical pain and emotional issues. It is simple to learn and easy to master. I have even taught three-year-olds how to use it!
Those of you who know me know that I am probably the most skeptical person on the planet. If you look at my Human Design chart, I am profoundly logical by design. That means I have to experiment with something repeatedly until I can see a consistent, verifiable result before I feel comfortable sharing with others. You can imagine when, a few years ago Kyle introduced me to EFT I was a little skeptical. (To read Kyle's EFT story visit: "My EFT Story"). Truthfully, I wondered about this new technique. There was no way that I was going to tap on my body to heal emotional blocks and I certainly wasn't going to tap on my clients.no, no, no.
But, after experimenting with EFT on my friends, my self and my family, I was convinced that I needed to add this tool to my practice. I have witnessed some amazing results both personally and professionally. EFT helped my son overcome a serious speech impediment, helped a dear friend overcome a severe flight phobia and, in my own case, has helped me move past intense professional blocks that kept me from earning a living doing the work I love. EFT is extremely powerful and may be able to help you. Even when it seems like nothing else has worked.
If you would like to learn more about EFT, download our free e-book, "EFT for Everyone". We also have several EFT training courses that you can purchase from the Joyful Mission website. Follow this link to our EFT training page.
The exciting thing about EFT is that, once you learn how to do it, you can do it by yourself. It is fast, easy, effective and doesn't require a huge financial investment or years of working with a practitioner. I hope you will give EFT a try, even if you think it's weird!

I look forward to hearing from you!
